Color of the Year

Farrow & Ball Debuts Must-Have Colors for 2019

Farrow & Ball expanded its 132-shade core to include nine brand new shades poised to take over the design world in 2019.

Now that the new year is upon us, the British paint and paper retailer has specifically named the shades De Nimes and Sulking Room Pink as the two must-have colors for 2019.

Both of the trending colors for the year give off soothing vibes, and behind them have specific, distinctly French inspirations.

The Farrow & Ball brand describes De Nimes as “a down to earth and grounding blue.”

“This quietly elegant blue feels wonderfully down to earth, so could be used on anything from a kitchen island to an airy drawing room,” Farrow & Ball explained. “The exact shade is rooted in a regency palette but is inspired by the cloth of everyday work wear made in the France. Like denim, its blue hue is ultimately fashionable and yet always feels grounded.”

Farrow & Ball’s Color Curator, Joa Studholme, suggests De Nimes for decorators interested in making the transition into bolder colors.

“A complex blue, it is perfect for those who are wary of moving into a world of color because it still has a familiar underlying grey tone which is more visibly apparent in spaces with low light,” Studholme explained.

“In well-lit areas it appears much bluer and is distinctive when used on front doors and other exterior surfaces,” she added. “De Nimes has a restrained elegance and refined sophistication when used on walls and would feel totally at home in a living room particularly when combined with School House White on woodwork and ceilings for a crisper feel. However, it is also a great anchor to a space, so is perfect for use on kitchen units.”

If you’re looking to warm up a space with a 2019 update to the trending and influential Millennial Pink, Farrow & Ball has a shade suggestion to try out.

The paint company called their versatile new Sulking Room Pink “a romantic and muted rose.”

“Not to be seen as overtly pink, but rather a muted rose with enormous warmth, its powdery feel makes it incredibly soft and easy to use with complementary tones,” according to the Farrow & Ball website. “Sulking Room Pink is evocative of the colors so often used in boudoirs, a room named after the French ‘bouder’ – to sulk.”

We love the hue in bedrooms, living rooms, dining areas, and even as an unexpected kitchen accent shade.
