J. Cohler Mason Creates Art Collector’s Living Room at Kips Bay NYC

Jennifer Cohler Mason of New York City-based J. Cohler Mason Design created the ultimate art-lover’s family room for this year’s charity Kips Bay Decorator Show House in NYC.

The space is dreamy for at-home entertainers who love showing off their fine collections and global souvenirs to their guests.

The designer imagined the space’s dream clients as passionate art collectors whose collection is constantly growing. There is also an undeniable dose of high-end glamour at play in the open and airy space, which accommodates the pieces without overwhelming the area.

“I wanted to give the room some touches of glam without going over the top,” Mason said in a press release.

Each decadent furniture piece in the room gives off a similarly collective vibe. Even the ceiling – which Mason calls the room’s “fifth wall” – is polished off with artistic touches, like a brushstroke patterned finish.

“The painted walls from Benjamin Moore are subtle in their texturing, a look that melds perfectly with the textured ceiling treatment from Holland & Sherry,” the firm shared in a press release. “Among the furnishings is a pair of vintage 1950’s lounge chairs from Guy de Regal, from Todd Merrill a channeled back sofa and a monumental brass and onyx lighting fixture, and from Studio van den Akker a multilevel cocktail table.”
