It all started with the seaside location. Interior designer Tina Anastasia of Connecticut-based Mark P. Finlay Interiors has created a brilliantly colorful “Coral Cabana” for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach 2019.
This space serves as a changing area and poolside retreat at the benefit show house, which recently celebrated its opening in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“The inspiration in this room began with the shell wall that is from Elitis in France,” the designer told House Tipster Industry at the show house’s unveiling event. “We thought we’re by the beach, we’re in the pool cabana, we need shells. That’s where we started.”
To create the vibrant and colorful space, the designer reached out to some of her longtime favorite vendors to find special, one-of-a-kind pieces that bring her inspirations to life.
“We work with Holly Hunt often, and this Christian Astuguevieille console table with the hemp was one of our favorites,” Anastasia shared. “We also found this modern scalloped E.J. Victor chest, and that designer is Bethan Gray Shamisian. We have Maya Romanoff with the Marilyn pictures, and Dinesh Boaz through Sarrell Gallery.”
“We curated the cabana ourselves and designed it,” the designer added. “We have The Rug Gallery’s rugs and The Shade Store’s wovens, all of the fabrics and draperies are through Peter Fasano. The trim is all Samuel and Sons.”
Though the designer describes her style as “inventive” and “always changing,” working in Florida for this show house event has specifically influenced the look Anastasia is bringing to the table.
“Especially in this room, the colors are truly inspirational with Palm Beach and Florida,” Anastasia said. “The corals, the natural feelings of the hemp that we have mixed with coral, purple, and natural colors of golds and yellows.”
The Mark P. Finlay Interiors design firm is known for its luxurious spaces, and Anastasia said clients are also drawn to its unique projects.
“I think that we attract clients that want something a little bit different,” she said. “Our work is very diverse, and we don’t do the same prototype, formulaic work over and over again. So I think when they want their own unique look and something that’s special to them, they like to come to us for that.”
