Kloof 119A by SAOTA. South Africa

Architect Greg Truen, a director at SAOTA, is the designer behind this majestic residential property on Cape Town, South Africa.

Truen isn’t just the brains and creativity behind this awe-inspiring design – the home was actually constructed for him and his family.

According to Truen’s project description, the goal of the design was “to create a house that made the most of the mountain site and the views that surround the house while obscuring the busy street and the surrounding houses from the view.”

Those aforementioned views are the true standout features of the location. The home was constricted with many walls of floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in sparkling light and maximized the panoramic views of Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, and more of Cape Town’s finest natural elements.

With so many wonders of nature outdoors, it was important for the landscaping to tie this property into its surroundings. Franchesca Watson Garden Design extended the gardens and courtyards of each level into the mountainous surface surrounding the home.

Truen’s family has now lived at this residence for a year, and is appreciating the way the space puts them in touch with nature.

“The spaces are simple use-zones articulated by level changes in the floor and ceilings,” he shared, via The Cool Hunter. “There are gardens on every level which extend into the view creating the impression that the building sits in the mountain landscape. The inverted pyramid roof allows for views of the peaks of Lion’s Head and Table Mountain and allows one to track the movement of the sun and moon across the sky.”
