Mark Williams and Niki Papadopoulos Debut Dramatic Powder Room

The Kips Bay Decorator Show Home in Palm Springs contains numerous coastal, airy rooms, but the powder room design courtesy of Atlanta-based designers Mark Williams and Niki Papadopoulos takes a different approach.

“We tend to have a more tailored style with a warm, modern approach,” Williams explained to House Tipster during the show house unveiling event.  This aesthetic was evident in the powder room he and Papadopoulos created together for the annual fundraising event.

For this small bathroom situated off the main living room, Williams and Papadopoulos wanted to create a “jewel box” for what they considered a “cocktail party powder room.” Using saturations of dark, rich colors combined with reflective surfaces and a large-scale mural, they ultimately made a functional bathroom space that feels expansive, not confining, and is modern without seeming overdone.

In an effort to make the powder room feel comfortable and usable, they avoided sterile, unapproachable design elements; choosing instead welcoming features.

The vendors that helped this design duo round out the lavatory include Area Environments (wall mural), Ann Sacks (metal foil tile), Apparatus Studio (sconces), Christopher Boots (chandelier with quartz rock crystals), Mirror Image (mirror), The Shade Store (shades) and Kohler (plumbing and fixtures).

A deep metallic paint resembling cast bronze, a new product from Benjamin Moore, adds to the walls’ reflective aesthetic, and a rug designed by Alexander McQueen for The Rug Company helps complete the room.

Two large bronze statuettes on lend from a Palm Beach-area gallery were expertly placed in an unusable corner of the room to add a touch of art and sophistication.

Lustrous and sleek, Mark Williams and Niki Papadopoulos’ design for the  2019 Kips Bay Decorator Show House is nothing short of extraordinary.
