Working alongside skilled artisans and suppliers from around the globe who are dedicated to fair trade and operating under eco-friendly working conditions, Creative Matters offers a custom product you can be proud to own.

“From hand-knotted rugs in Nepal to custom printed carpets in Denmark to felted wallcoverings in China, we assign our designs only to the few who have truly mastered the technique,” says a company representative.

In 2017, Creative Matters partnered with New York City’s Gachot Studios to create the area rugs for the new Shinola Hotel in Detroit. The property, a 129-room hotel funded by Detroit watchmaker Shinola and the real estate firm Bedrock, is one part of a planned resurgence of the Motor City.

Handtufted in Thailand in 100% wool, the 44 Creative Matters corridor inset carpets feature a fine grid design. Crisp craftmanship with textural details that celebrate the handmade construction in a subtle yet stunning manner.

Numerous designers from both Gachot and Creative Matters collaborated to create 21 different designs and produce an astounding 277 rugs. Gachot took over the initial design aspects such as color, texture, and designs, while Creative Matters finalized the designs and ensured they were produced according to the company’s high standards.

The rugs were handwoven in four countries: Nepal, India, Afghanistan, and Thailand. Keeping with Creative Matter’s mission of ethical production, 97 rugs were handmade over the course of 5-months by Afghani women through a collaborative effort between the World Bank, Turquoise Mountain, and Label STEP.
