Mark Badgley and James Mischka of the famed Badgley Mischka, are known for their glamorous collection of evening wear and accessories.
In 2017, the duo expanded their brand to include Badgley Mischka Home, an assortment of home furniture and decor that complement their characteristic design aesthetic.
When it comes to simple yet elegant designs of the highest quality, no one fits the bill quite like Badgley Mischka.
A Match Made in Heaven
The two friends met at Parsons School of Design in New York City, and although they went their separate ways after graduation, Mark and James met up and eventually forged a one-of-a-kind partnership.
Armed with experience under the guidance of Donna Karan and Willi Smith, Badgley and Mischka officially launched their own line in 1998. The Badgley Mischka brand was built around younger, high-fashion clientele looking for a complete couture product that was as simple as it was captivating.
Hollywood celebrities immediately took notice of their designs, including big names like Julia Roberts, Helen Mirren, and Madonna.
Over the next few decades, Badgley Mischka became a household name. Today, the duo’s brand is synonymous with beauty, modernity, and of course, glamour, and their A-list clientele continues to expand.
Bringing Glamour Home
“There’s a thread of glamour in everything we do,” Mark explained. And in 2017, this “thread” expanded from the world of fashion to home furnishings and decor.
Badgley Mischka Home is a growing lifestyle brand that includes staple furniture pieces and accents for every room in the house, including dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, and dens.
Spread across 12 collections, each design features the finest fabrics and craftsmanship on the market. You’ll find couture pieces such as the Astaire Credenza, alongside more practical (yet still lovely) accents like the Nova Large Pet Bowl in Gold.
“It’s inspired by the classic glamour of old Hollywood, translated for the modern home,” noted James.
Old Hollywood is on full display in Badgley Mischka Home, particularly in the Astaire and Casablanca collections. Details such as the hand-gilded metal on the end tables and chairs turn these functional pieces of furniture into conversational pieces.
Interestingly, the transition from fashion to home was a seamless one for the duo, who note that there’s a blur between the two worlds and a similar development processes in the industries. “Fashion and [home] complement each other,” they said.
“Sensitive to Fabrications”
In the world of fashion, every detail matters, whether it’s beading or a hemline. Badgley and Mishka translate that same attention to detail to their home designs. “Coming from the fashion world, we’re sensitive to fabrications,” James reiterated.
That’s why you’ll find details such as a beautiful, surfboard-like finish on the Catalina Desk, or gold flecking and geometric patterns in the entire Balboa collection.
There’s no detail left for later; no aspect overlooked.
Beauty is Always Trendy
The most inspirational part of the Badgley Mischka story isn’t their journey from students to design elites; it’s their commitment to the brand’s core values for over 30 years.
“We’re doing what we feel fits our brand,” Mark said. “If your furniture makes your house feel beautiful, then it doesn’t have to be on-trend.”
Mark Badgley and James Mischka prove that there’s nothing more beautiful than modern glamour. They have shaped the world of fashion, and are elevating home design to a whole new level.
It’s an exciting time to be a part of the home furnishing and design industry, and we can thank Badgley Mischka for their role in this.
