The popular e-commerce retailer, which focuses sales on handcrafted items and vintage designs, released its annual trend prediction report findings – and even named the shade Chartreuse its Color of the Year 2020.

Etsy has called the color “daring, statement-making, and unexpected—exactly what we’re all trying to embrace in the New Year.” It’s definitely a striking choice for those looking to start off a new decade (and Etsy’s “Year of Purpose,”) with a refreshing redesign.

The bold yellow-green shade has a surprisingly versatile list of potential applications in the home. It can be used as a great accent pillow, in decorative stones and crystals, as cocktail napkins, in colorful pottery and tableware, as a hint of colors in curtains and other drapery, in vintage wallpaper prints, and in more luxurious textiles like colorful bedding and fine furniture upholstery.

Etsy’s trend expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, has noted a 12% increase in searches for green items, with an additional 55% increase in searches specifically for neon green items on the site within the last three months.

Across the online shopping platform, the distinct hue also shows up in fashion, wearable accessories, wedding details (like invitations and place cards), and wall art.

Etsy’s 2019 Color of the Year was Burnt Orange, so Chartreuse makes a contrasting statement while falling into the larger trend toward vibrancy.

Elsewhere on the site, Johnson’s report has found a 7% search increase for color-blocking in home decor, specifically styles influenced by 50s and 60s mod. Interest is also up in the areas of wellness (especially for pets), coordinated couples’ jackets, and 1980s inspired fashions.
