Café Society + Mad Men‘s Don Draper = “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere everyday!” according to interior designer Barbara Lewis of The Lewis Design Group. The designer created a festive lounge area for the Holiday House NYC 2019 show, which recently opened its doors in Manhattan.
All of the participating designers in this year’s charity fundraiser show house were tasked with transforming a room in the home inspired by a specific holiday or celebration. Lewis’ take was a tribute to the luxury and opulence of cigar smoke and whiskey-central New York City nightlife.
“This Bar Lounge is designed to take you back in time to the glamorous and fun Café Society of the late sixties in Manhattan, where everyday is a holiday worth celebrating and playful and inspirational design adds to the the buzzy euphoria of brilliant company and an expertly made cocktail,” Lewis shared in her show notes.
Using a preexisting mid-century marble bar from the original space, Lewis decided to create the ultimate gathering space full of vintage mementos.
“What I tried to do with the shelving is use it more or less as a bar that you’d have in the home, as opposed to an actual bar that you would go out do,” Lewis told House Tipster Industry. “It’s stylized and staged a certain way, instead of just having all the liquor bottles lined up together.”
To outfit the luxurious bar, Lewis worked with Benjamin Moore, Astek Wallcoverings, Cowtan & Tout, Bungalow 5, Simmer & Rhode, Circa Lighting, Deluxe, Two Worlds Arts, Images & Details, and Kelly O’Neill. Additionally, seating and accessories from The Lewis Design Group were used throughout the space.
Through December 15, guests will be able to see the vintage-inspired space in person at 125 East 65th Street in Manhattan. The show, which is now celebrating its 12th annual event in Manhattan, is a fundraising benefit for the Breast Cancer Research Fund.
