Barbara Lewis of Connecticut-based The Lewis Design Group is the designer behind the “Her Sanctuary” Spa Room at this year’s Holiday House Hamptons. The space, which debuted at the beautiful 2019 charity show in Water Mill, New York, is intended to celebrate close female friendships.
“Her Sanctuary” is inspired by the designer’s “ideal concept of a birthday celebration,” according to the group’s show notes. “It’s a place to retreat to with a few close girlfriends after a fun day at the beach and before a festive dinner party. The color scheme is inspired by the gorgeous sandy pinks of the Hamptons beaches [and] offers a relaxing spot to transition between day and evening.”
House Tipster Industry guest host Alexis Parent of Alexis Parent Interiors was able to meet with designer Barbara Lewis at the show house’s press unveiling event to hear all about many of the space’s most stand-out features, which include direct references to the show’s beautiful location.
“I love being out here [in the Hamptons],” Lewis said. “I think it’s one of my favorite places to be. So for me, the inspiration was all about it having to be a day at the beach or pool, and then you come in to this space, which is supposed to be relaxing. Wind down, hang out with your friends, have a glass of wine.”
To make it happen, there is a massage room with a private chair, trendy decorative white palm trees, dazzling chandelier, and a collection of interesting collectibles on display throughout the space.
“I’m always loving the thrill of the hunt,” Lewis shared about sourcing exceptional new pieces for her rooms.
Lewis worked with several top vendors to make this dusty pink and glowing rose gold room sparkle. Fabrics throughout the feminine spa area are by Cowan & Tout, Colefax & Fowler, F. Schumacher, and Sandra Jordan, and linens are by Matouk. Wallcoverings are by Thibaut and Winfield Thybony, and trimmings are from Travers and Samuel & Sons.
The combination of lovely furniture in the room is by English Country Home, Wakefield Design Galleries, Charles Stewart Furniture, Meg Braff Antiques and Designs, Valley Attic Antiques, and custom creations by The Lewis Design Group.
