Justin Shaulis & Christopher Grubb Talk Luxury Design at Dallas Market

Interior designers Christopher Grubb and Justin Shaulis took part in a luxury design influence panel during this Fall 2019 season of Dallas Market Center’s Dallas Design Week.

The talk, titled “From Madison Avenue, Rodeo Drive and Main Street USA – What are the Enticing and Exquisite Luxury Elements Clients are Demanding in Their Designs,” featured the latest in luxury designs and products that the designers consider to be must-haves for projects.

After their panel discussion, the duo spoke more about Shaulis’ career, especially about his latest work as Brand Ambassador for Howard Elliott mirrors and accessories.

“Most of it came from honest conversations about their position in the market, the aesthetic, and the overall brand awareness,” Shaulis shared. “I was talking to them about areas of what we do, which is interior design and mainly residential, and they just don’t have those kinds of conversations in-house. It was more hospitality.”

“So through all of that, we developed a relationship where I participate with them with social media,” he added. “[I’m] really looking, almost like a creative director, as [to] which new products are coming in. And weighing in on finishes, look, and proportion – what I look for.”

It can be challenging to stay on top of the trends – never mind ahead of them – as the industry changes quicker than ever. Shaulis has a way to combat that, though.

“We made a decision early on that we were not going to forecast trends,” the designer explained. “[Instead], we were really going to be committing to the design of the pieces, and feeling a level of confidence about those. The concept of it will follow – people will love it.”
