Danielle Rollins Presents Garden Terrace at 2019 Hampton Designer Showhouse

Interior designer Danielle Rollins was able to do absolutely anything she wanted when teaming up with Woodard for the 2019 Hampton Designer Showhouse – and she decided to turn the Southampton, New York location into a beachy escape filled with abundant greenery.

The House Tipster Industry team was able to speak exclusively with the designer at a special show house press preview unveiling event, benefiting Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. There, Rollins detailed the retro touches that make up the space, and walked us through some of her favorite pieces on display.

“I wanted to capture the feeling of all of the beautiful seaside resorts that dot the Italian and French Riviera,” Rollins told us, explaining that the color choices started with the outdoor furniture and umbrella. “We chose this Sunbrella in mineral blue and white with a classic red, because I [also] wanted to capture the Hamptons Americana feel. I love the classic, yet casual, all-American weekend lifestyle that is adored universally, but especially in the Hamptons, and wanted to create a space that had something for everyone.”

“When I’m doing an outdoor space, I always want to think about all the kinds of things you can do in one space, and make it a multi-use, functional piece [and] work for anybody to be out here for gardening, socializing and entertaining, relaxing, resting, or simply ignoring the world and reading a good book,” she added. “Entertaining isn’t the same all the time, so I think it’s important to create adaptable, functional spaces.”

“Woodard and I share the same lifestyle vision that furniture and design has to be functional, comfortable, good quality and long lasting so they were a pleasure to collaborate with,” Rollins said.

“I am absolutely crazy for the Cane Collection, because I live for anything wicker or rattan – so we have the best of all worlds with this lightweight metal, wonderfully scaled mix and match collection. I love having classic furniture in red because to me, red is a timeless neutral that goes with everything but gives it a little pizazz! And the fringed umbrellas? Pure seaside chic if there ever was such a thing!”

The patio itself is a beautiful outdoor dining space, which Rollins outfitted with comfy chairs and upscale table settings in her coordinating color scheme. From there, the designer wanted the ample seating to be customizable for any event, garden party, or meal that would take place there.

“The table is set with Replacements tabletop,” the designer said. “I always think when I’m doing a space, that it’s not always going to be the same, so how do you make it comfortable for eight or 80? I like to have a space that the table can become the centerpiece for dining, or it can become the bar. We’ve used our garden cart here as a bar.”

Of course, the outdoor terrace lends itself to greenery, and the designer made sure to pick up her accent colors in the lush plants and flowers.

“We’ve put in red geraniums and boxwood, because I wanted to give it some structure,” Rollins explained. “We mixed in classic red and white geraniums – nothing could be more summery to me.”

For their part in bringing this enchanting outdoor space to life, Danielle Rollins Interiors credits a list of luxury vendors and brands, including Bevolo, Charlotte Moss’s Garden, Pennoyer Newman, Emissary, Replacements, Sunbrella, Viva Terra, and Woodard Furniture.
