Fashion expert Carson Kressley and interior designer Thom Filicia first hit your television screens together back in 2003 with the mega-popular series, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The stars, along with the rest of their “Fab Five,” captured our hearts as they taught their guests – and all of us, vicariously through them – how to live our best lives through style, design, and cuisine. Now, the dynamic duo is back for a brand new show together, Get a Room with Carson & Thom, debuting on Bravo this October 19.

House Tipster was able to sit down with Kressley and Filicia at the What’s New, What’s Next industry event in New York City to speak all about the premiere of this show – plus share their thoughts on the overlaps of fashion and decorating and how homeowners can push the boundaries of their design comfort zones.

Kressley is coming to this production strictly from the fashion world’s perspective – he appreciates great style in interior design, but doesn’t know the “science” behind it. This is a lot like his fashion clients, who may fabulously dress to the nines but struggle to add that personal touch to their living spaces – or vice versa. That’s where Filicia comes in: through this series, he will not only be sharing his years of design expertise with Carson in the most entertaining and informative way possible, but he will in turn be educating viewers on how to to create home spaces that reflect their personalities best.

Plus, it’s an exciting reunion for fans who have been following the guys’ individual career moves over the years.

“We have been working together for many years, but know we’re working together and working together,” Filicia explained about the project in our exclusive interview.

Both show hosts aim to emphasize the importance of mixing high-end, mid-range, and low-end (or as Filicia puts it, the “entry-level”) pieces together to create a well-balanced space. This is a helpful styling tips viewers will really be able to relate to – and be able to confidently put into practice when doing their own home makeovers.

“Hopefully it’s a fun way of exposing the world of interior design to people,” Kressley shared with us. “You see it in food shows, and shows like Project Runway: people have a real appetite for design, and we hope to bring that to interior design. I hope they learn along with me [as I learn a new trade].”
